Working with a variety of art mediums, such as transformation of found objects, textile installations, drawing, and painting, Naomi Middelmann explores the subjectivity of memory, which changes depending on the context in which we remember or in which we do not remember. Her recent work involves creating intricate maps from memory or using found maps to create a landscape of memories or a cartography of space and time. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University (USA) and postgraduate of the Visual Art School of Basel (CH), Middelmann’s work has been shown in over 70 shows (museums, galleries and art fairs) in Europe, Switzerland and the USA. Her work is featured in both public and private collections. Her interest in the ambiguity of perception, as well as in contributing to translational research has led her to collaborate, teach, and design research projects with leading neuroscientists in Switzerland and the USA. Lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland.
